Federal Nutrition Programs - School-Based

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

CEP is a USDA provision that allows an eligible school, groups of schools, or school district to provide all students free breakfast and lunch without the requirement of free or reduced price meal applications, reducing the stigma and time spent on paperwork while ensuring all students have access to two healthy meals each day at school.

National School Lunch Program (NSLP)

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally funded meal program operating at schools across the nation. The NSLP provides nutritious lunches to low income students at a free or reduced price. Schools receive a reimbursement for each eligible meal served. All meals must follow a specific set of nutritional guidelines established by the USDA. Students are eligible for free meals if they come from families with an income at or below 130% of the poverty level. Students from families with an income at or below 185% of the poverty level are eligible for reduced price meals. The NSLP is the most widely used school-based nutrition program with over 95% of public schools participating.
